How to create a Command Center in your home!
With or without a formal mudroom, here are some tips I have for organizing tech, paper and all that stuff that gets into your home!
I had the opportunity to set-up a command station in a client’s mudroom, and was so excited to get started. The client and her husband had a specific checklist of goals they wanted this space to cover - and you should know - I love a list. Like, really love. It not only helps me know what they want BUT lets me know they have put thought into it!
Now, when I went to gather inspiration on beautiful but budget friendly solutions — I really didn’t find much. I feel like creating a beautiful space wasn’t really featured in a lot of the images I was searching for to help with inspiration, so I worked with what I could find in order to create this beautiful space, pictured below.
For more photos, please check out the post at my instagram feed for more detailed shots of inside of the cabinets. As much as possible, I wanted to keep this clutter-free. This also gives them plenty of room to have incoming packages and mail set down.
Our goal was to find a home for:
tech charging station (in the cabinets)
extra cord storage (in the cabinets)
incoming mail area (the white trays above)
place to store paper “to-do’s” by week and by month (in the cabinets)
place to hang invitations (the memo board shown above)
place to write reminders (not pictured - a board off to the side)
spots for keys and sunglasses (to the left, above)
storage for bug spray, sunscreen etc. (in the cabinets)
At first glance, this list is not too bad. I worked to make a cohesive color scheme to match their painted cabinets.
SO WHAT DID I FIND!?
I found the following products, and also made a Pinterest board here, if you’re interested in that.
Product Links:
Charging Station - thought this was a great solution to hold phones, watches, airpods, and more
A great drawer that we labeled for ‘this week’ and ‘this month’
Storage boxes for the extra wires and chargers
Sunglasses stand - doubles as a key holder!
Great mirror that I fell in love with from the Target Hearth and Home collection. I also really loved this white mirror too, it had a great weight to it - and would pair well with a white dry erase board, too.
More simple white eraseboards from Amazon and Target that we used.
And honestly, I’m not great at gathering testimonials from clients, but since we’ve worked together a few times now, she kindly provided me the following note:
I keep hiring Jess! She has organized my kitchen, playroom, and mudroom. Jess comes up with thoughtful, budget conscious, and beautiful plans. She is efficient, easy to work with and has been a huge help to me and my family! I’ll surely be hiring Jess for my next project.
